Join us for our fringe debate at Conservative Conference
The UK entered the pandemic as an economically divided country and the events of the past 19 months have made the situation even worse: already high levels of unemployment in struggling areas of the country have been pushed higher. And a new risk has emerged – the levelling down of more affluent parts of the country.
As restrictions are lifted and the economy reopens, city and national policymakers must focus on delivering the policies that will tackle both these challenges.
At this event, we will discuss what mayors and city leaders are doing to help their places recover and thrive, and what more they could do if they were given the powers and resources. It will also explore how the insights and experiences of Conservative city leaders from across the country should be used by the national Government.
Abi Brown, Leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council
Heather Jameson, Editor of The MJ
Andy Street, Mayor of West Midlands
The event will be chaired by Andrew Carter, Chief Executive at Centre for Cities
