Connected Places Catapult is working in partnership with Energy Systems Catapult for the Department for Transport.
The purpose of this proof of concept project is to illustrate the potential application of geospatial data for net zero planning, and to highlight current data barriers.
The aim of the project is to map energy usage and demand by various modes of transport, with a view to informing decisions on future net zero refuelling infrastructure requirements. Greater Manchester was used as a case study area.
The outcome of the project is an energy map which will help to illuminate current energy usage by fuel types and transport mode, and requirements to reach net zero by 2050. The future direction of transport and energy vectors has been considered.
The aims of the workshop are to:
Demonstrate the map that has been created to show local authorities and place owners what can be done with freely available data
Highlight barriers and challenges faced throughout the project to help others understand how to go about doing something similar in other places
Provide an opportunity for feedback, including gaps and improvements to understand how this work can be optimised for potential users
