    **Job Description**

    AECOM is looking for a Principal/Senior Water Scientist to join our established and award-winning Water Environment Team.

    This is a multi-disciplinary team with over 60 specialists in water science, geomorphology, hydrology, aquatic-ecology, and hydrogeology. W

    e work for clients from across the public and private sectors, including local councils, national highways agencies, UK environment agencies, power/utility/water companies, Homes England, Network Rail, River Trusts as well as private developers and overseas clients.

    We are involved in major infrastructure projects, but equally recognize the importance of providing specialist water science services to smaller niche projects and developments.

    The Principal/Senior Water Scientist role will involve:

    + Carrying out and co-ordinating baseline, feasibility and optioneering studies;

    + Developing and implementing field studies and monitoring;

    + Engaging with multi-disciplinary design/project teams, statutory and non-statutory stakeholders;

    + Drafting high quality technical and non-technical reports such as Environmental Statement chapters, WFD assessments, pollution prevention management plans, as well as bespoke reports and outputs.

    We envisage successful candidates to have experience of and be able to deliver the following types of work to a high standard:

    + Water / sediment quality and hydrological baseline studies, monitoring and field investigations and assessments.EIA and WFD assessments (experience of NSIP is favourable).

    + Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary design/project teams to develop sustainable solutions, mitigation measures and environmental enhancement options to bring about positive environmental outcomes.

    + Effective engagement with statutory and non-statutory stakeholders.

    + Project and client management.

    + Drafting technical proposals and managing risk.

    + Overseeing the drafting of technical reports and supporting information.

    **Qualifications**

    To be successful in this role we are looking for applications from experienced professionals who have worked in a similar role. They should:

    + Have experience in water / sediment quality and hydrology.

    + Be able to plan and organize project studies, field work and monitoring.

    + Have experience of undertaking feasibility studies/appraisals, impact and WFD assessments, including ideally for NSIPs.

    + Have strong analytical / numerical skills to methodically record, analyse and interpret data.

    + Have excellent report writing skills.Be able to prepare project scopes and draft technical proposals.

    + Have strong communication skills.

    + Have experience engaging with statutory and non-statutory stakeholders.

    + Be able to work independently under direction of senior staff

    + Be able to oversee work of less experienced scientists with a view to future line management opportunities.

    + Be developing project management skills.

    + For the Principal grade we would expect the successful candidate to have prior practical experience in a similar or comparable role.

    + We would expect the candidate to be a full member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. CIWEM, CIEEM, IEMA, BHS etc.) and either be chartered or working towards gaining chartered status.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Be qualified to degree level in relevant subject (e.g. geography, environmental science, chemistry, ecology etc.).
