An architectural CV blueprint is useful because it gives the document a job. The CV should introduce your level, evidence, skills and portfolio in a way that helps the reader make a quick, fair decision.

You can make it look beautiful later. First, make sure the structure works.

Use a clear order

There is no single magic format, but most architecture CVs work better when the important information is easy to scan.

  • Name, contact details and portfolio link.
  • Short profile matched to the role.
  • Practice experience or placements.
  • Selected project evidence.
  • Education and qualifications.
  • Software and technical skills.

Build the CV around evidence

A good CV does not just list responsibilities. It gives enough context for the reader to understand what you have actually done.

Use project type, scale, stage, software and responsibility where they are relevant. Keep it honest if the work was academic, professional, team-based or individual.

Make the portfolio link do some work

  • Use a clean, working link.
  • Make sure the portfolio supports the CV claims.
  • Do not hide the link in tiny text.
  • Check it opens on mobile and desktop.
  • Use a sensible file name if sending a PDF.

Common mistakes

  • Opening with a vague profile that could fit any candidate.
  • Using duties instead of evidence.
  • Listing too many disconnected software tools.
  • Making the CV harder to read through over-design.
  • Forgetting to connect the CV to the portfolio.

Architecture Social view

Stephen’s recruiter view is that the CV should make the portfolio easier to understand before it is opened. If the CV gives the right context, the portfolio has a much better chance.
