TALK ON THE CHALLENGES OF THE RESTORATION OF CLEVEDON PIER
The talk will cover the collapse of the Pier in 1970 and the technical challenges encountered during 28 year journey during a number of contracts leading to its full restoration, and beyond, when it was classified as the only Grade I listed pier in the country.

About the speaker: Simon Talbot-Ponsonby
Simon is a retired Chartered Civil Engineer having worked in many different areas as contractor, consultant or client, but primarily in Building Structures. His professional work includes a number of power stations, shopping centres, listed buildings and on the Jubilee Line Extension. He was also the project director for Sustrans National Cycle Network Millennium Commission project.
He was first involved with Clevedon Pier in 1988 when working for Roughton and Fenton (which became party of Acer) when he supervised the contract for the restoration of the Pier. He have been involved with the Pier ever since becoming a Trustee in 1991. He was chair between 2009 and 2017. He is now also a Trustee of the Birnbeck regeneration Trust.
