As an ecologist you will be responsible for; managing or coordinating projects undertaken within eastern Ontario, leading the delivery of projects and proposals, developing, and fostering healthy client relationships, scoping and executing field programs, supporting technical reporting and proposals, and collaborating with other members of the team to provide high-quality solutions to our clients.Through this role, you will be a key member of a team that has a history of undertaking several of the most interesting and influential projects in our communities. Some of the ongoing projects you will be involved with will include; Turtle Radio Telemetry and eDNA studies, the design and development of our growing communities, the design and construction of realigned watercourses and new wetlands, the development of mitigation measures to protect wildlife and habitat road impacts, and many others. Role accountabilities:Follow and promote a health and safety culture within the teamCommit to self-development and ongoing learning in the field of Ecology, Leadership, and BusinessHelp manage or coordinate projects and technical studies for the Natural Systems team in eastern Ontario. Including the scoping, planning, and execution of field survey programsUndertake or coordinate biophysical surveys as required following the standard field methodologies used in Ontario. For example, aquatic habitat surveys, headwater drainage feature assessments, wetland evaluations and delineation, targeted SAR surveys, etc.Support the management of the digital data collection and associated project GIS dataAct as Arcadis' representative at client meetings, and our client’s representative at agency and stakeholder meetings.Prepare and/or contribute to technical reports that meet the needs clients and partners. Examples include; Environmental Impact Studies, Existing Conditions Reports, Tree Conservation Reports, Environmental Assessments, and other reports associated with permits and approvalsLead or coordinate permitting and approvals at the local, provincial, and federal level related to natural heritage. (e.g. tree cut permits, endangered species act, conservation authorities, fisheries act, etc.)Prepare and/or contribute to the preparation of project proposals and associated marketing materials Qualifications and Experience: A degree or diploma in biology, ecology, environmental studies, or related discipline. A post-graduate degree is preferred.Minimum 3 years of related work experience in the consulting environment is preferred. Ideal candidate will have Ontario-based certifications or training in standardized field methodologies (e.g. Ontario Wetland Evaluation System, HDF Assessment, Electrofishing, etc.)Experience in the application of natural heritage surveys to support municipal, provincial, or federal approvals in the land development, transportation infrastructure, and municipal planning sectors. These include, but may not be limited to; breeding birds, amphibian call surveys, ELC and vegetation surveys, tree inventories, etc.A thorough understanding of municipal, provincial, and federal policies and legislation that govern the management of natural heritage features in Southern Ontario. Project management experienceWillingness to work flexible hours and undertake fieldwork under a variety of conditions. Willingness to travel for fieldwork and out-of-town meetings. Experience with ArcGIS and Mobile Data Collection tools is considered an Asset.
