The role at a glance:
NBBJ Columbus is seeking a junior Architectural Designer to join our team. We are looking for an architectural designer with good conceptual, visual, and communication skills to work in a highly collaborative and design-oriented studio.
At NBBJ, a junior designer is responsible for supporting design efforts on projects, learning and applying design quality standards, contributing to a collaborative design environment, and developing their design skills through active project involvement and mentorship.
In your new role, you will:
Set Expectations: Participate in defining quality expectations via design reviews and discussions.
Inspire: Bring fresh ideas, encouraging innovation and creativity in design efforts.
Create: Assist in design tasks across projects, gaining experience from concept to construction.
Review/Critique: Participate in reviews to understand and support high-design quality.
Present/Communicate: Help prepare and present designs, learning to tell compelling design stories.
Network Internally: Engage with peers, participate in reviews, and collaborate within the firm.
Network Externally: Attend events to enhance brand awareness and learn client engagement.
Methodologies: Learn and apply the latest design tools and methods to projects.
Process: Support proper design processes, collaborating with PMs and PAs.
Expertise: Develop design skills across practices, focusing on a specific typology.
Integrated Design Delivery: Learn project delivery, collaborating with disciplines for integrated design.
What you will need to succeed:
2 - 5 years of experience
Bachelor's Degree: B Arch or M Arch desired
Deep understanding of high-performance building concepts, with LEED Accreditation or within 18 months of hire
Strong conceptual design and schematic design skills
Strong verbal and graphic communication skills and ability to work within diverse teams of designers
Proficiency in Revit with 3D modeling skills; Sketchup, and/or Rhino desired
Working knowledge of Adobe Suite; Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
Interest and experience in Grasshopper workflows are beneficial
Ability to participate in multiple projects and manage deadlines
Ability to thrive in a collaborative, open environment
Ability to travel, if the project requires
