The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Technical Architect to join our thriving Los Angeles studio. In this role, you will leverage your technical expertise and project delivery experience to contribute to challenging and diverse projects. As a key member of our team, you will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, leadership, and professionalism. Collaboration, reliability, and accountability for meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work are paramount. Your proactive approach will focus on design, project delivery, and exceeding client and firm-wide expectations. The successful candidate will excel in all aspects of project delivery, including client interaction, design-team coordination, consultant collaboration, and leading the production of construction documents.
What You Will Do:
Collaborate with the project design lead to coordinate, manage, and produce project deliverables.
Work across project teams and provide training and mentorship to junior staff members.
Identify potential project risks, including coordination issues and changes in scope.
Support the design technology team (BIM and computational design) by identifying training needs, coordinating with consultants, and ensuring alignment with the project's digital objectives and standards.
Contribute to the life of the studio; studio-wide initiatives and challenges; our design and sustainability culture; and the broader social and wellness culture at Grimshaw
Qualifications and Skills:
Master's degree or equivalent 5-year professional degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited school is required.
Minimum of 15 years' professional experience with a strong understanding of building systems and the ability to shepherd a building design from concept to construction.
Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD is highly preferred.
Excellent coordination and communication skills.
Strong delegation, time management, prioritization, and management skills. Experience mentoring and developing junior staff.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Desired Experience:
General knowledge of local building codes and their impact on design development, from initial concepts to final product/material selection.
Experience collaborating in medium to large-sized teams on the delivery of large, complex document sets. Exposure to a range of project typologies, both domestic and international, is highly valued.
Strong preference for experience in the Transportation, Workspace, Science and Technology sectors, with additional value placed on Hospitality, Residential, and Sports sectors.
Familiarity with advanced project sustainability initiatives, including carbon emission reduction, resource conservation, health, resilience, research, certification programs, and performance-based design, is preferred.
Knowledge of the effective and pragmatic use of documents during construction and crafting documents to minimize RFI’s and Change Orders.
