Interior Designer (Healthcare) HOK designs buildings and spaces that respond to the needs of people and the environment. Summary Understands and has an interest in Healthcare specific design, visioning, and design execution with a strong interest in the technical coordination of the design. This candidate will work closely with the design team to oversee the technical coordination at each project phase to ensure project requirements and objectives are met. Leadership Has 5-8 years’ experience as an interior designer within Healthcare projects with exposure to a variety of Healthcare project types. For example: Emergency Departments, In-Patient bed floors, Pediatrics, Cancer Treatment Understanding of FGI and ADA guidelines and has participated in code compliance oversight. Oversee coordination and quality assurance of documents required to complete a project or phase of a project; ensures documents are in concert with design intent. Familiar with programming efforts such as space and medical planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, lighting and color coordination. Develops innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function which is reflective of client goals and within project budget. Responsible for the coordination and specification of selected furniture, lighting, flooring, wall covering and artwork. Estimates material requirements and costs. Responsible for keeping the project, or a phase of a project, on schedule. Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary. Leads the Construction Administration phase responding to RFI’s, CO’s, reviewing shop drawings and involved in the field site reviews. Implements and utilizes HOK Standards for all projects and processes. Ensures project documentation and contracts are in compliance with the standards set forth by the Technical Board. Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects. Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices. Teamwork Prepares, corrects and updates documents during schematic design, design development and construction administration phases. Coordinates color and material palettes. Produces written documentation related to project including meeting documentation, transmittals, memoranda, using HOK standard formats. Communicates with consultants, contractors, sub-consultants and other disciplines to ensure project details are carried out including technical issues and project information at all levels of contract administration. May assist in design presentations. May assist more senior staff with keeping a phase of a project on schedule. May provide support to all team members for specific field, style, or phase of interior design expertise. Develops and maintain positive relationships with consultants, contractors and jurisdictional/approval agencies. May be responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary. Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service. Staff Development Will mentor and direct the work of less experienced staff. May participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff. Required Skills SKILLS & COMPETENCIES: Advanced knowledge of design principles and the ability to interpret design concepts and layouts, including commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the profession. Knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness. Advanced knowledge of furniture, fixture and equipment (FF&E), architectural/interior finishes, lighting, signage, art, and color schemes to carryout design intent. Knowledge of building regulations and safety codes. Particularly as they apply to Healthcare Environments Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Thorough knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines. Knowledge of buildingSMART, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). Proven ability to prioritize in order to meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clients. Proficiency in the basic technical skills of interior design including the following computer skills: Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Proficiency in Revit required Knowledge of 3D Modeling software such as 3D Studio Max and Viz 2006. Knowledge of Affinity, Sketchup, and Photoshop graphic software. Ability to effectively meet deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work in team environment. OTHER: Travel will be required. Qualifications EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design or foreign equivalent. Prior experience in Healthcare projects required. Must be professional Interior Designer and have passed the NCIDQ exam or be a registered Architect with current license required. If registered Architect, NCARB registration preferred.
