Description
Common and Baseline Responsibilities:
- Provides assistance throughout the interior design process under routine guidance; contributes to the overall success of the team by adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in interior design, execution, and living design.
- Begins to understand the architectural design process and integration of interior design concepts.
- Participates in preparing contract documents, including but not limited to floor plans and details, reflected ceiling plans, mill work design, furniture layouts, finish plans, and schedules.
- Assists in creating presentation materials and models for client presentations.
- Learns to manipulate basic design elements such as spatial layout, color, light, texture, and scale.
- Researches manufacturers and contributes to selection of colors, finishes, materials, furniture, and lighting for interior application, ensuring sustainability goals of the firm are maintained.
- Contributes to programming and space planning analysis and provides area calculations.
- Gains exposure to knowledge of project scope, budgets, and deliverables.
- Uses a creative approach to perform tasks and responsibilities on projects in an organized, timely, and consistent way.
- Self-checks work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual.
- Proactively asks questions and expresses curiosity about the world of design, materials, and products as well as the industry at large.
- Provides support to tasks within project teams (may focus on individual detailed tasks) and studio activities.
- Participates in design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups.
- Keeps open communication within team and with designated team leader.
- Communicates ideas and thoughts in a way that inspires others.
- Assists with coordination among partners and consultants.
Proficiencies
- BIM
- Building codes and guidelines as applicable (ADA, FGI, etc.)
- Basic knowledge in programming, planned, and site analysis
- Preliminary design studies
- Contract documents
- Field observations and measurements
- Life safety requirements
- Furniture and interior product specifications
- Construction contract administration
Software
- Functional knowledge of 2D/3D production software
- Basic to Intermediate Revit
- Conceptual modeling tools such as Rhino and Grasshopper
- Microsoft Office / Adobe Suite
- Visualization tools such as Enscape and VRay
- Presentation tools such as InDesign and Photoshop
- Environmental Analysis software such as Ladybug and Climate Studio
Licensure/Certifications/Education
- LEED GA within 6 months of hire
- Professional Accreditation in one area of Living Design that interests you: LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI Living Future Accreditation
- Preparing for NCIDQ
- Bachelor's degree in interiors, architecture or related discipline required

At the time of posting this job advertisement, commensurate with qualifications, the annual range for this position in Chicago is between $53,600 and $68,300 per year.
