**The role at a glance:**
NBBJ London is seeking an experienced Project Architect. We are looking for skilled designers with a minimum of five years’ post-Part 3 experience working in the UK, ideally including experience in the life science or healthcare sectors.
**Responsibilities include:**
- Collaborating with internal and external project team members to produce and coordinate design solutions.
- Engaging with clients and stakeholders to develop new and existing relationships.
- Working with the client’s project manager, the design team, contractors, and sub-contractors to ensure the project’s scope is delivered within the agreed budget and programme.
NBBJ works on a variety of project scales and complexities. Depending on project scale and complexity, the below list covers activities associated with the development and delivery of a whole project (Project Architect), or specific element(s) of a given project supporting the Lead Project Architect (Package Architect). Our London practice is expanding with exciting work opportunities in life science, workplace, and healthcare.
**In your new role, you will:**
- Work closely with the Principal-in-Charge and Design Lead to explore, develop, communicate, and coordinate design concepts.
- Collaborate with NBBJ’s internal Project Manager(s) to develop the project design programme, design responsibility matrix, and refine deliverables.
- Plan and coordinate with other team members to ensure project design scope, technical tasks, deliverables, and programme are implemented, supported by NBBJ’s Project Manager.
- Work collaboratively with clients, project managers, cost managers, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors throughout the project.
- Navigate complex technical and compliance matters through independent technical research, experience, and sound judgment.
- Work confidently within a studio and project team environment, lead independently, and know when to engage office leadership on key issues.
- Coordinate the design and deliverables (including stage reports, drawings, and specifications) with the architectural and consultant design team.
- In the construction stage, visit the site, review submittals, shop drawings, prepare site observation reports, design clarifications, and respond to RFIs. Comment on matters of quality, detail, and finish as set out in the contract documents.
- Interpret and develop design concepts and translate them into workable construction systems.
- Lead the work of other team members, providing mentoring and guidance.
- Lead teams through documentation and delivery of projects and packages.
- Lead the project consultant team to ensure an integrated approach and coordinate project requirements.
- Prepare designs, working drawings, and specifications, and coordinate cost estimates for the project(s).
- Maintain records to document phases of the project(s).
**What you will need to succeed:**
- Qualified Architect, with a minimum of 5 years’ post-Part 3 experience (7 years minimum industry experience).
- Experience with large or complex buildings; experience in life science and healthcare sectors is a plus.
- Previous track record in the Project Architect role, with proven experience in RIBA Stages 3 through 5.
- Working experience in all RIBA Stages is essential.
- Track record of production of accurate drawings and project deliverables on time.
- Excellent graphic, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Revit (essential) with 3D modelling skills; Rhino and/or Sketchup (preferable).
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop / InDesign (preferable).
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (essential).
- BREEAM / LEED / WELL (or equivalent) Accreditation desired.
