Project Architect - Healthcare (SF/LA/SEA)

We are currently seeking a Project Architect to join our team. As a Project Architect, in partnership with the Project Manager and Project Designer, you are accountable for project financial performance and team communication. You will be responsible for the issuance and content of deliverables, technical content of HOK documents, and coordination of disciplines including consultants, as well as for the supervision of all staff producing documents.
Leadership
As a Project Architect, you will:
- Ensure the overall design intent of the project established by the Project Designer is incorporated into the detailed documentation.
- Monitor the design process from conceptual phase through construction administration, ensuring the design idea is consistent and properly executed.
- Be responsible for technical resolution and coordination for a defined portion of a project.
- Work with the Specification Writer to develop specifications and coordinate drawings and specifications.
- Check completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations for accuracy.
- Set the overall strategy for producing the documents and identify the sheets planned for each stage of the work.
- Define how data will be organized into files and which elements will be incorporated in a Building Information Model (BIM).
- Set up project team software parameters and manage standards.
- Foster and maintain a collaborative professional working relationship with the Project Leadership Team.
- Communicate with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provide support as necessary.
- Ensure that construction detail documentation conforms to quality assurance, quality control, and best practice standards.
- Supervise preparation of technical drawings by other less senior level architects or technicians.
- Perform as team leader on certain projects and mentor less experienced staff.
- Participate in professional development reviews and “Lessons Learned” sessions.
- Take personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
- Foster a commitment to external and internal client service.
Client Interface
You will work on developing a positive relationship of trust with client leadership by:
- Regularly communicating with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews, and delivery of final presentations.
Teamwork
You will receive project direction from the Principal in Charge and technical direction from the RBU Technical Principal. Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating use and tracking shared electronic documentation and files with the project team, clients, and consultants.
- Assisting in planning and conducting work, making minor adaptations and modifications to complete working drawing set(s).
- Meeting with municipal building department and other governing agency officials to coordinate approvals or variances.
- Writing reports and memos to consultants and vendors to issue changes and track resolutions.
- Providing technical support and project communications to the team as required.
- Attending on-site visits, field reviews, and project meetings.
- Preparing and coordinating the review of contractor’s schedules, submission of shop drawings, and samples.
- Assisting the Specification Writer in product research, consulting with manufacturers, evaluating and selecting project-related materials.
- Being involved with specification set-up and drawing coordination, research, and appropriate use of HOK Standards.
- Providing support to all team members for specific market, discipline, or other areas of expertise.
- Participating in team meetings to help resolve project issues, coordination with other disciplines, schedule adherence, and technical issues.
- Participating in the review of project costs and budgets, and adherence to schedule.
- Preparing meeting minutes of consultant coordination meetings.
- May prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings and build models for client/project team review.
- Incorporating Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
Business Development
You may participate in business development meetings with team leaders to target specified project, client, or market opportunities.
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
- Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.
- Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
- Advanced knowledge of QA/QC process.
- Advanced knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents.
- Advanced knowledge of Construction Administration Process.
- Proficiency in Revit required.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Proficiency in 3D Modeling software such as Sketchup, Rhino, and Grasshopper preferred.
- Proficiency in Affinity software suite preferred.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
- Ability to lead teams and work effectively with other project leaders.
