Project Designer HOK designs buildings and spaces that respond to the needs of people and the environment. With preliminary direction from the Design Principals, establish and develop innovative design concepts and solutions from concept design through construction design for all phases of Aviation/Transportation, Healthcare, Civic/Cultural, Hospitality, Office/Mixed-use, and Residential; participate in Request for Proposal (RFP), Request for Qualification (RFQ), and Design Competitions; perform independent pre-design research on subject, context, and precedents; perform zoning analysis and code reviews for both domestic and international projects; organize internal studio design reviews and pin-ups; prepare 2D design drawings including planning concept, architecture plans/elevations/sections, stacking diagrams, detail drawings, and graphic materials for internal team/client review with proficiency in architecture technical tools such as Revit/BIM documentation, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, Affinity Suite, Microsoft Office suite, Cloud-based online markerboards including Miro, Microsoft Whiteboard; prepare 3D presentation documents including preliminary massing, renderings, vignettes, building system renderings, physical models, animations for internal team/client review, utilizing advanced modeling, scripting, rendering software such as Rhino/Grasshopper, Sketchup, Revit/BIM 360 documentation and modeling, 3ds Max rendering, Enscape rendering and animation; prepare physical models using digital fabrication software, foam cut, laser cut, 3D printing, and CNC machine for client presentations and company display; provide alternative planning options and design studies with site plans and sections, digital models and renderings, physical massing study, and other presentation images; incorporate local weather data and utilize advanced energy modeling tools such as Climate Studio, Ladybug/Honeybee/Diva to identify passive design solutions and minimize building energy needs; incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects following established standards; oversee design team in ensuring that documentation for all phases conforms to quality assurance, quality control, and best practice standards; coordinate input from clients, Design Principals, and other consultants in terms of project functional and spatial requirements, schedule, and budgets and translate into multiple design solutions; lead a small team of designers or technicians in developing solutions to technical and design detail problems following established standards; regularly communicate with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews, and design delivery; attend on-site visits and client meetings to verify design requirements and deliver design progress reviews; perform product research and materials selection with assistance from Project Architect and Project Manager; review design drawings/specifications, construction documents, and material sheets as directed by Design Principals ensuring project cost, adherence to schedule, and the incorporation of design intent; utilize Microsoft Suite with defining and tracking aggressive project schedule and work plans; assist team project team in construction administration document management; coordinate and incorporate architectural drawings and documents with both internal and external consultants such as planning specialist, structural engineers, Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing engineers, interior designer, lighting designer, landscape consultants and contractors throughout design/construction phases to ensure all the documents interface properly to avoid building deficiencies; review all project related tender drawings, shop drawings, materials samples, and submittals; provide related documents and evaluate visual mock-up (VMU) and performance mock-up (PMU) to ensure the presence of exact architectural details; conduct site visit, construction administration, substantial and final inspections and prepare punch lists.
