Senior Communications Manager ZGF is seeking a Senior Communications Manager to join our team in our Portland, OR office. We are seeking a creative, passionate, and strategic communicator to develop and drive a range of communications efforts for our Portland, Oregon office of 200+ ZGF’ers. As a Senior Communications Manager you will work closely with marketing and design leadership in the Portland office to craft compelling stories that align with firm values, differentiate the brand, and grow the firm’s visibility across a range of audiences both internally and externally. You will bring to the role a curiosity for all things design and architecture, and a storyteller’s nose for news. Your portfolio clearly demonstrates the ability to unearth meaningful stories that grab the attention of our core audiences, link them to broader cultural moments that reflect organizational values, and bring them to life with text and visuals. Your news savvy and media relationships will enhance media coverage for the firm and support strategic placement of ZGF stories across a range of local, regional, and national media outlets. Strong executive presence will allow you to effectively counsel senior ZGF leadership. Leadership skills will be important to connect with other ZGF communications teams across our offices and drive work forward in a collaborative environment, as well as excellent communication and project management chops to interface with client stakeholders, work with the media, and lead public relations efforts with industry partners in a nuanced environment. The ability to prioritize and toggle between multiple deadlines are key attributes that you bring to this role. As a Senior Communications Manager, you will…Create and execute against public relations plans for a variety of needs, ranging from architectural project promotion to campaigns focused on an industry or market sector. Collaborate with architecture and design teams to identify storylines and develop media pitches, blog posts, conference and award submissions, and other writing projects. For each new landmark project, cultivate relationships with client stakeholders, establish protocol for review and approval of materials, and act as a liaison for narrative development.Develop and nurture relationships with local, regional and national media to secure features of ZGF’s projects, process and people.Monitor key local events and public relations opportunities. Provide attendance and sponsorship recommendations to leadership for improved brand visibility.Research industry trends and monitor the media as it relates to ZGF’s strategic priorities. Identify awards opportunities for on the boards and completed projects. Provide recommendations to leadership based on internal tracking mechanisms, manage the visual layout process in collaboration with graphic design, and craft award narratives. Identify conference opportunities for thought leaders and ZGF projects, working with leadership, ZGF design team and client stakeholders to develop submissions.Directly manage and support social media accounts, including developing content, posting, and reporting. Exhibit high energy, enthusiasm, and poise while working collaboratively and thinking strategically.Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or related field.Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in communications, public relations, or related field.Demonstrated experience in media relations and a strong understanding of the news cycle.Demonstrated storytelling experience from inception of idea through to completed product. Experience working with and serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.Ability to thrive in ambiguity and identify communications priorities. Aptitude for providing structure and establishing workflows necessary to move work forward. Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and research skills.Understanding of visual storytelling including video, infographics, and motion graphics. Proficiency in software programs including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
