The role at a glance:
NBBJ London is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our talented Digital Infrastructure team. Our ideal candidate is highly collaborative, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, strong project management and time management skills, and has a successful track record of designing simple, scalable solutions, troubleshooting complex problems, and delivering innovative solutions. The desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment is essential. Given the nature of this role, candidates will have the option to work remotely but must live within 1 hour of the office in the event the studio needs immediate, onsite support.
In your new role, you will:
Learn and integrate an ever-changing range of complex technologies with the current systems.
Provide escalation support for systems administrators and other engineers.
Lead, coach, and mentor other team members, perform cross-training, and facilitate information sharing among team members.
Meet with vendors to discuss product offerings, address technical issues/deficiencies, and influence the procurement of new products and services to meet growing and changing requirements.
Plan, design, and build highly available, reliable, and scalable virtualized server platforms.
Document workflows, processes, procedures, configurations, and use cases of infrastructure services.
Support the firm’s current server infrastructure by providing application or service configuration, security hardening, backup and recovery planning, and performance tuning.
Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions day to day in our infrastructure.
Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify viable solutions, and work with developers to implement fixes.
May be required to take part in a team on-call rotation. In rare circumstances, may be required to work long hours in the event of a critical system outage, serious incident, or for disaster recovery.
Some travel may be required, generally less than two weeks per year.
What you will need to succeed:
Our ideal candidate has at least seven years of relevant experience as a systems engineer in a mid-sized multilocation enterprise environment. You should have:
A methodical and analytical approach to troubleshooting.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
High autonomy, attention to detail, and an ability to interact efficiently with peers and customers.
The ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure, fast-paced, collaborative environment.
An understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals and related applications/protocols (DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SSL).
Direct, recent, hands-on professional experience with the following:
