Job Details
As an Urban Designer I in the Perkins&Will Singapore design team, you will:
- Provide creativity and assistance throughout the design process under routine guidance and following the process outlined by the team.
- Contribute to the overall success of the team by adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in design, execution, and living design.
- Support data gathering, research, and creative exploration.
- Analyze sites, programs, and other key project elements through quantitative and qualitative means.
- Develop analytical and design drawings throughout the design process using analog (through sketching and physical modeling) and digital means (through digital analyses, sketching, and modeling).
- Assist in preparing design documentation including master plan reports, design guidelines, and client-ready presentation materials.
- Coordinate input and produce revisions to drawings, project deliverables, mock-ups, and other project material.
- Assist in reviewing, evaluating, and integrating zoning and policy requirements into project design.
- Assist in developing strategies for key urban frameworks and systems including but not limited to circulation, open space, buildings, and infrastructure.
- Assist with project-related client and public discussions and presentations.
- Take increasing ownership on tasks within project teams and studio activities.
- Exercise creative judgment in all aspects of the design process.
- Proactively ask questions and express curiosity about the world of design and the industry at large.
- Participate actively within collaborative team settings such as casual team interactions, design charettes, reviews, and pin-ups.
- Keep open communication within the team and with designated team leader.
- Communicate ideas and thoughts in a way that inspires others.
- Assist with coordination among other design partners and consultants.
- Self-check work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual.
- Complete tasks and responsibilities on projects, within the scope of work, schedule, and budget, in an organized, timely and consistent way.
Typical Years of Requisite Experience
0-3 years of experience in planning and/or urban design projects.
High-level Summary of Critical, Baseline Technical Skills and Certifications
- Proficiencies in site and design research.
- Site analytics.
- Planning and zoning code analytics.
- Concept and detailed design studies.
- Production of drawings and deliverables.
- Hand-drawn and digital sketching.
- Computational analysis.
Software Functional Knowledge
- 2D/3D production software (Revit, Rhino).
- Digital sketching/diagramming software (Illustrator).
- Analytical tools (ArcGIS, Grasshopper).
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Visualization tools (Enscape, VRay).
- Physical modeling making.
- Presentation tools (InDesign, PowerPoint).
Licensure/Certifications/Education
- Bachelor’s degree in urban design, landscape, architecture, or related discipline required.
- LEED GA within 6 months of hire.
- Professional Accreditation in one area of Living Design that interests you: LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI Living Future Accreditation.
