**Your Opportunity**
Stantec is hiring a Technical Department Head (Mechanical) / Project Lead Mechanical Engineer (HVAC) to join our team in Philadelphia, PA. Your role is to work independently with a team of design colleagues to conceptualize and develop full documentation for new construction and renovation projects for multiple types of facilities such as: healthcare, commercial offices, higher education, research laboratory or similar applications.
On a project basis, the role also includes being the lead client contact to establish design criteria, review design progress as well as serving as the lead for projects through construction administration.
The Mechanical Engineer should be able to evaluate, optimize, select, specify, and engineer all mechanical (HVAC) equipment and distribution systems serving a new construction or renovation project.
The Mechanical (HVAC) Engineer is expected to lead the HVAC design concept analysis and optimization and to lead coordination with teams of in-house architects and other engineering disciplines.
This position involves also leading and being the senior technical resource for a mechanical department of 15-20 people.
**Your Key Responsibilities**
+ Responsible for discipline technical accuracy using Stantec established tools and design methods. Technical resource for all projects for HVAC and potentially plumbing disciplines.
+ Project peer review & discipline technical review at each project phase.
+ On-going activity in technical societies and sector societies.
+ Monitor and propose technical and professional career development opportunities for the department staff.
+ Direct supervision of department staff with ongoing performance reviews.
+ Maintain and augment department technical resources (design standards by system, master specifications, equipment selection guidelines, design details, Revit modeling production efficiency).
+ Will be responsible to adhere to in-house project procedures and quality control practices.
+ Assist other Engineers with engineering duties on larger complex Healthcare, Higher Education and Science & Technology projects to meet production deadlines.
+ Where assigned as a task manager on a project, help develop project design workplans and monitor the hours spent by the MEP engineering team.
+ Provide guidance and mentor junior staff, including other engineers, designers, and intern staff.
+ Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
+ Perform other duties as assigned by the Group Leaders and/or Engineering Discipline Leader such as supporting new project proposals by developing project scope, design budgets, and design approach for potential projects.
**Qualifications**
**Your Capabilities and Credentials**
+ Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of the mechanical and plumbing codes, energy codes, ASHRAE standards, FGI Guidelines, and other building codes.
+ Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
+ Ability to author a Basis of Design document.
+ Ability to be the primary client contact for the technical discipline.
+ Ability to be assertive in communicating and discussing engineering issues.
+ Ability to participate in client presentations in support of technical topics.
+ Strong ability and desire to lead mechanical HVAC design engineering to achieve a high-performance system; desire to evaluate system alternatives with increasing energy efficiency.
+ Detailed understanding of all phases of architectural / engineering document production with a working knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM). Projects are produced in Revit 2022. Ability to review and monitor the production progress via the BIM is required.
+ Strong knowledge of Building Automation Systems and Controls. Ability to author sequences of operation and develop design controls documentation for HVAC systems.
+ Strong knowledge of both airside and hydronic design. Hydronic design experience shall include chilled water, steam, and heating hot water design. Ability to develop mechanical flow diagrams and details including all supporting devices and appurtenances.
+ Desire to mentor other staff with technical issues and in their career growth with Stantec.
+ Desire to work in a highly collaborative environment with other engineering disciplines and in-house architecture.
+ Ability to engage in multiple tasks concurrently.
+ Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, and AutoCAD; Prefer experience with Newforma and IESVE.
+ Knowledge or desire to complete energy modeling using IESVE or other software is a plus.
+ Working knowledge of plumbing/fire protection systems engineering and design is a plus.
**Education, Experience and Licensure**
+ Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
+ Minimum of 20 years of experience.
+ PE license required (Pennsylvania minimally; other states are a plus).
+ LEED accredited professional status is preferred.
**Additional Information**
The position will take place in a typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
