Project Description:
Neha undertook a transformative project to revitalize a forgotten post-industrial landscape alongside the River Irwell in Greater Manchester. The site, anchored by the historic Pioneer Mill, had long been neglected, serving as a dumping ground and symbol of urban decay. The project sought to breathe new life into both the land and the mill, seamlessly integrating history with modern urban design.
Drawing on principles of adaptive reuse and sustainable development, Neha reimagined the mill as a vibrant cultural hub surrounded by multifunctional green spaces. The design included accessible roof gardens, and recreational areas, all thoughtfully connected to the site’s natural features, including the river. By blending historical preservation with contemporary architectural elements, the project created a dynamic space that celebrates industrial heritage while fostering community interaction and ecological restoration.
With a focus on cultural expression, environmental sustainability, and social engagement, Neha’s work highlights how neglected landscapes and structures can be repurposed to contribute to the urban fabric, providing both functional and aesthetic value to the community.
About the Creator of this project:
Neha is an accomplished Urban Designer specializing in Landscape Design, with a Master’s degree from the Manchester School of Architecture. She also holds an overseas Bachelor's degree in Architecture, through which she gained hands-on experience designing diverse public realm and architectural projects, contributing to large-scale urban master plans, green spaces, and urban parks. Neha's achievements include earning the RISE Gold Award for a sustainability-driven landscape project at Whitworth Park in Manchester and holding a Design Copyright for her thesis research in India. She is also a Certified LEED Designer, reflecting her expertise in sustainable design.
She is actively seeking opportunities to apply her global perspective and multidisciplinary skills to innovative urban and landscape design projects!
