“Safwan is a Part II Architecture graduate from De Montfort University (DMU), and is available immediately for employment preferably in the East Midlands and Leicestershire. He is very keen on sketching, easily capable of solving complex design problems, and particularly passionate about the design development process. He has an interest in sustainable and anthropocentric design – architecture for the people.

He was also part of an urban design research and development team at DMU during which he came up with proposals for a potential social housing scheme and shared this with the local council.”

“Safwan's thesis was on environmental and social design, focusing in Surat, Gujarat, India. An initial research-driven masterplan along the Tapi river consisting of landscaping elements, educational and recreational areas, and also artificially created paddy fields. The masterplan was developed as a prototype for a riverside urban regeneration programme to combat issues like waste and flooding.

The masterplan also includes a low-tech open building for upcycling where the waste is crafted and converted into something new and resold at the existing flea market. The concept retains the cultural life and spirit of the Surti workers by becoming a publicly visible activity which adds to the dynamism Surat’s activities.”
