Our Berkley, MI. office is looking for a highly motivated Structural Engineer to join our growing, multi-disciplinary team. As a Structural Engineer, you will work with general supervision and direction on multiple projects, and as a team member on larger projects under the guidance of a Senior Structural Engineer. You will participate in the evaluation, analysis, calculations, design drawings, recommendations, and specifications for engineered systems or products for projects verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices.
**Your Key Responsibilities**
+ Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements
+ Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats
+ Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details
+ Coordinates with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent
+ Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to requests for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks
+ Assists with the development of job specific discipline specifications
+ Assists in the evaluation and selection of structural systems and materials
+ Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants
+ Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating
+ Implements sustainable design principles into the design and surrounding environment
+ Performs calculations of well-defined structural systems using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software
**Qualifications**
**Your Capabilities and Credentials**
+ Professional Engineer Licensure – registration is preferred. Ability to become licensed is required
+ Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes
+ General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications
+ Strong knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards
+ Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule
+ Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
+ Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others
+ Advanced oral and written communication skills
+ Presentation and interview skills are preferred
+ Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
+ Requires directing production of 3D models and 2D structural engineering drawings using Revit and AutoCad
+ Requires experience using structural engineering/finite element analysis software such as STAAD, RAM, SAP2000, RISA
+ Requires heavy civil construction field experience
+ Working knowledge of ACI 318, ACI 350, OBC 2017, ASCE 7-10 and 7-16
**Education and Experience**
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred
+ Licensed Professional Engineer (or in process of obtaining license)
+ Minimum of 7-10 years of experience
Typical office environment, to be in person or virtual, working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
