Threefold Architects

Threefold was established in 2004 by a group of friends: Matt Driscoll, Jack Hosea, and Renée Searle. They shared a common goal of creating buildings and spaces that go beyond conventional functionality, aiming to foster collaboration, health, inspiration, and productivity. This underlying ethos permeates every aspect of our architectural practice, and we strive to integrate these values into our interactions with clients, team members, partners, and communities.

As an award-winning architecture practice, we have built a solid reputation for pioneering housing and mixed-use design. Our focus is not determined by project size, but rather by its potential impact. Our portfolio spans a wide spectrum, ranging from individual single-family homes to unlocking the potential of small and complex sites, and delivering large-scale mixed-use and residential developments consisting of up to 150 units.

We engage closely with communities to understand their specific needs, designing appropriate typologies that accommodate families with integrated landscapes and play areas, compact units with generous shared amenities, specialized housing for supported living, and co-living/multi-generational living spaces. Our collaborations extend to leading housing providers such as Pocket Living, BeFirst, and Brick x Brick, where we contribute our expertise in designing and delivering healthy mixed-use developments.

Our buildings prioritize internal and external health. Working in tandem with our clients, we aim for net-zero targets, designing building envelopes that perform efficiently, minimizing waste, selecting materials with recycled content or low embodied energy, integrating biodiversity, and leveraging technology to reduce carbon footprints and energy consumption.

We believe buildings should enhance our lives, making us more productive, happier, and inspired. We consider how people will move, think, behave, and feel within and about our buildings. Founded on friendship, we blend our ideas with our clients' aspirations to achieve elegant, distinctive, and tailored solutions. This alchemy results in inventive material choices and meticulous attention to detail.

Our notable achievements include successful projects for Airbnb HQ and The Crown Estate, demonstrating our understanding of the significance of work-life integration and the need for effective workspaces that align with modern living. We are currently collaborating with Croydon's Brick by Brick on three schemes involving private and affordable homes. Moreover, we possess expertise in delivering exceptional projects within sensitive rural locations, including National Parks and World Heritage Sites.
