The Object and Its Cabinet

Eesha Sharma’s project, the "Urban Cultural Hub," reimagines Oxford’s Westgate area as a dynamic cultural space that blends art, community, and sustainability. Inspired by Jan Gehl’s human-centric approach to urban design, the project prioritizes inclusivity, transforming a commercial zone into a vibrant hub for cultural exchange and social interaction. The design envisions Westgate not merely as a retail space but as a "City of Courtyards," celebrating Oxford’s architectural heritage while creating new opportunities for connection.

The masterplan includes spaces like art galleries, creative schools, ethical retail, and green urban parks, offering a mix of cultural and social experiences. Drawing inspiration from global precedents like the Atatürk Cultural Center and The High Line, Eesha’s design incorporates multifunctional spaces that invite people to engage with art and community, breaking down the barriers between public and private spaces.
