About

I am a chartered architect, author and teacher, with a passion for the environment, equity and ethics.

I received an OBE for services to architecture in 2021.

My design practice, Eco=logic, has carried out a diverse portfolio of projects in the UK and abroad. I work collaboratively and am currently a member of a women led collective. I received the UIA:UNESCO International, Atkins Inspire for leadership and Women In Business awards, amongst others. I speak regularly on podcasts and on radio about architecture. I sit on competition and design review panels.

I am keen to support the next generation of architects. I have lectured on architecture and technical design for over 25 years in the UK and abroad. I am a visiting Professor at the Politecnico di Milano. I teach Professional Practice at the University of Westminster, and an external examiner at the Architectural Association and Ravensbourne University.

I have been a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, RIBA, since 1993. I have sat on many RIBA committees such as the Practice and Professions, Professional standards panel, and Ethics and Sustainable Development Commission. I was elected to the RIBA Council 2011-14 and again in 2021 as a national candidate. At present, I’m the RIBA Board trustee for Education.

As part of seeing more inclusion and equity in the profession, I set up Architects For Change, the equality forum at RIBA, and chaired Women in Architecture. I'm a co-founder of Asian Architects CIC.

My own experiences of disability have given me an awareness of the importance of patient focussed healthcare. I was a Non-Executive Director in the NHS, Moorfields NHS Foundation Trust for nine years. I set up and chaired its first People and Culture Committee. I'm a co-founder of the Seacole Group, which promotes diversity on NHS Boards. I have written two books on healthcare design.

I understand the role of voluntary and charity sectors in supporting the environment and the profession. I founded the environmental design charity, Charushila. I am a trustee of the Architects Benevolent Society, Waltham Abbey Royal Royal Gunpowder Mills, and Commonwealth Association of Architects.

I also work as a commissioned artist. A ceramic mural designed by me was inaugurated in New Delhi by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II- and my art and photography have been exhibited and published.

I enjoy writing- I have documented my architectural journey in the form of five books and several research papers.
