About
About Barking Riverside.
Barking Riverside represents one of the UK's most ambitious regeneration projects, transforming a vast area along the banks of the River Thames into a vibrant new district. This comprehensive development is set on 443 acres and aims to include 10,800 new homes of varied sizes and styles, catering to a wide range of residents. The project underscores a significant investment in both residential and commercial spaces, with 65,000m2 dedicated to shopping, restaurants, cafés, community and leisure facilities, healthcare, and schools, creating a self-sustaining community.
The masterplan for Barking Riverside, meticulously crafted by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, envisions the creation of distinct neighbourhoods, each with its unique character and amenities. Notable areas within the development include Rivergate, known for its established family community and the George Carey Primary School; Northgate, a new residential district under construction offering schools, green spaces, and new facilities; and the District Centre, poised to become a bustling commercial zone and a hub for community facilities and cultural events.
Future phases of development, such as The Viaduct, Kings Wharf, The Village, Stage 2 South, and The River and Foreshore, promise diverse living environments, from cultural hubs to family-friendly neighbourhoods and waterfront leisure destinations. This ambitious project aims not just to build homes but to create a holistic environment where residents can thrive, supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure including a brand new Overground station, direct river access, seven new schools, and over 21 hectares of open space and sports pitches.
Barking Riverside is more than just a housing development; it's a community-driven project. Powered by the collaborative efforts of Barking Riverside Limited (BRL), a joint venture between L&Q and the Mayor of London, and other stakeholders, this initiative is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape a sustainable and inclusive urban environment. Offering a mix of rental and ownership options, including Shared Ownership schemes, Barking Riverside caters to a diverse demographic, ensuring accessibility and affordability for all.
The development is a testament to the transformative power of urban regeneration, embodying a vision of growth, community, and sustainability. As Barking Riverside continues to evolve, it stands as a model for future developments, blending residential, commercial, and cultural spaces to create a dynamic and thriving district.
