The story
The story behind the work.
Sitting at 185 sq m of internal living space, Domain House was designed for a young family of four in Torquay, Victoria. The brief called for a sensible, energy-efficient home that could flex as the children grew up. Lachlan Shepherd Architects answered with a tight footprint that subdivides into a parents' zone and a children's zone, separated by a partition sliding door.
A rumpus room doubles as a third or guest bedroom thanks to hidden stacking doors and a concealed fold-down bed. Externally the building combines sections of blockwork with timber weatherboards, left to silver naturally over time.
