The story
The story behind the work.
Wallaby Lane House and Studio sit at Tinbeerwah on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, designed by Jolyon Robinson of Robinson Architects for a family relocating from Sydney and completed in 2014. The site is a long, narrow sliver of just over two hectares, with a band of established bushland through its centre separating the two buildings.
The property has no connection to town water or sewerage, so an onsite waste water treatment system serves both buildings and rainwater is harvested across the site. The house sits high on the land and is linear in plan, following the natural contour. The layout is spacious yet compact, with no wasted space.
Oriented to the north, the house is shaded by large eaves and a fly-over roof. Cross ventilation, natural daylight and the views out to Cooroy Mountain are all drawn into the design.
The project covers 335 square metres.
