The entitlement looks like a full-year regular worker calculation. Confirm whether bank holidays are included in the contract allowance before issuing the figure.

Common questions.

Practical answers for the questions people ask about this tool.

Do bank holidays come out of my entitlement?

That depends entirely on the contract. The statutory minimum in the UK is 5.6 weeks, which for a five-day week is 28 days, and an employer may count the eight bank holidays within that or give them on top. Both are lawful. Check whether your contract says "including bank holidays" or "plus bank holidays" — it is the single most common source of confusion.

How does holiday work if I join or leave part way through the year?

Entitlement is pro-rated to the part of the leave year you are employed for. On leaving you are entitled to be paid for accrued holiday you have not taken. If you have taken more than you accrued, many contracts allow the employer to recover it from final pay, so check before booking a long break close to a leaving date.

Can my employer refuse a holiday request?

Yes, provided they follow the notice rules and do not prevent you taking your statutory entitlement across the year. Practices often restrict leave around deadlines or submissions. Booking early, particularly around known project milestones, avoids most refusals.
