Developers are the industry’s risk takers: they find the sites, fund the work and carry the viability risk that decides whether anything gets built at all. Every architect’s brief ultimately traces back to a developer’s appraisal.
There are two ways to engage. Most designers meet developers as clients, but developers also employ their own design managers, development managers and project managers to brief and steer consultant teams. Either way, understanding viability maths makes you more valuable in the room.
