Architectural Technologist

An architectural technologist focuses on how buildings are designed, detailed, coordinated and delivered — close to architecture, construction, BIM and technical design, with emphasis on buildability and information quality. Core work usually includes technical drawings and specifications, consultant coordination, Revit or BIM information, planning or technical stages, regulations and helping the team solve buildability problems. The role is not a fallback design path; it is a specialist career strength.

The market can use titles inconsistently, so read each advert carefully. Technician and technologist roles can overlap, but technologist roles may ask for broader technical leadership, CIAT alignment or deeper construction knowledge. In the UK, architect is a protected title — do not use it unless you are ARB registered. You can still build a strong technical career without mislabelling your role.

Do not only list software. Show what the software helped you produce — drawings, details, stages, coordination and problem-solving. Cover project stages such as planning, tender, technical design or construction; drawing types; software in context; regulation, material or construction thinking; and a clear note on your personal role on team projects. Avoid visuals-only portfolios with no drawings or details.
