Purpose and scope
Architecture Social is a recruitment business, content platform and community rather than a manufacturer, contractor or large studio. Our environmental impact is therefore concentrated in travel, suppliers, events, technology, communication and the conversations we promote.
The aim is to reduce avoidable waste, make responsible operational decisions and encourage better environmental awareness where we can realistically influence it.
Our environmental commitments
- Promote responsible environmental practices throughout the organisation.
- Increase awareness among staff, members and partners.
- Minimise waste and pollution where our working practices can influence them.
- Encourage lower-impact travel choices where practical.
- Reduce unnecessary water, energy and resource consumption.
- Prefer products and services with less environmental harm where practical.
- Avoid damaging materials and processes where suitable alternatives exist.
- Encourage member organisations and partners to consider their own environmental responsibilities.
How this shows up in practice
Useful day-to-day decisions include using digital meetings where appropriate, avoiding unnecessary printing and travel, reducing duplication in content and administration, being thoughtful about events, and considering suppliers' environmental approach.
We also use Architecture Social to keep retrofit, low-carbon design, material choices, environmental assessment and sustainability skills visible in architecture careers and practice conversations.
Practical checks
Before a material operational decision, we can ask:
- Can this meeting, event or process avoid unnecessary travel or waste?
- Can we choose a supplier or tool with a better environmental approach?
- Can we reduce duplication in content, administration or communication?
- Can the platform support a more informed sustainability conversation?
Review and improvement
This policy should evolve as Architecture Social gains more control, data and influence. We will keep the commitments proportionate and honest, review them as the business changes, and improve them where a practical action is available.
