In their words
Northern Edge Studio approaches architecture as a collaboration between clients, designers and trades. Led by principal and owner Paul Cooksey, the practice works on residential projects that respond to an existing building’s character as well as the way it needs to function.
The studio’s published work includes the renovation of twentieth-century homes, with an emphasis on retaining useful fabric and extending a building’s life. Material selection and the relationship between interior spaces are central to that approach.
Atkinson Green illustrates this interest at the scale of a kitchen, pantry, laundry and adjoining living rooms. New joinery and carefully matched slate flooring support current routines while keeping the mid-century house recognisable.
