The story
The story behind the work.
The retrofit of 3 Sheldon Square retains a 2001 office structure while giving its workplace and public-facing landscape a stronger relationship with nature. Morris and Company led the architectural retrofit for British Land, with Gillespies responsible for the landscape architecture.
Prefabricated red-steel balconies carry biodiverse planting around the existing building, adding 450 square metres of accessible outdoor space. An additional 80 square metres of planting connects the office to the neighbouring Paddington Central Amphitheatre, also designed by Gillespies.
The planting palette supports pollinators, seasonal change and thermal comfort while extending a connected habitat through the wider development. The official practice page records the project as complete.
