A planning-approved public-realm strategy reconnecting York's historic shopping street with the River Ouse.
The story
Coney Street Riverside is a proposed mixed-use quarter intended to reconnect York's historic high street with the River Ouse. Retained and new buildings would provide retail, business and student accommodation alongside a new riverside walk and public spaces.
Gillespies leads landscape and public-realm design for Zones 3 and 4. The approach tackles a four-metre level change, flood risk and a sensitive historic setting through accessible routes and a consistent riverside ground level informed by detailed flood modelling.
The official page records planning as granted. The scheme is therefore described as an approved proposal, not a completed project.
