The story
The story behind the work.
Childcare Centre, Bundoora sits on a steep, constrained site in an urban part of Melbourne. Gardiner Architects retained the existing heritage cottage and paired it with a new building shaped around how children experience the built environment. The interiors are kept open, pared back and flexible, with each space connected closely to a sequence of outdoor play areas arranged across three levels.
The completed centre covers 850 square metres on a 1,360 square metre site and was finished in 2018.
