A 230,000 SF renovation reshapes the University of Pittsburgh's library as a flexible forum for study, making and discovery.
The story
The completed multi-year, multi-phased Hillman Library renovation in Pittsburgh reorganised spaces and services around digital information, collaboration and the expertise of librarians.
The LEED Platinum library adds a writing centre, bookbinding lab, video suite, café, group-study rooms and an Open Lab makerspace. A photovoltaic array produces 250,000 kWh annually, while the entry addition's high-performance glass limits solar heat gain by 50%.
