The project

House for a Doctor is a sustainable renovation of a three-bedroom Victorian property in Bethnal Green’s Globe Road Conservation Area, originally built by the East End Dwellings Company. The client, a cancer research doctor, shares the house with lodgers.

Whittaker Parsons favoured building less but better. The retrofit centred on salvaged and reused materials and a thorough thermal upgrade of the historic fabric, while a new entrance hall and reworked living spaces replaced the cramped layout left from the building’s life as a shop.
