Elmhurst Avenue
Iguana Architects · 2018
Projects / Project
Iguana Architects has added a light-filled wraparound extension to a dark, fragmented period house in London and refurbished its interior.

The project
The owners bought the house with planning permission already in place, but the approved scheme would have left the new rooms with very low ceilings. Having seen Iguana’s work on Elmhurst Avenue nearby, they asked the practice to revisit the design.
The new ground-floor wraparound extension makes the most of the house’s potential for tall ceilings and brings daylight deep into the plan, while the rest of the home was refurbished around it.

Timber steps lead from the garden to the extension.

A bedroom with built-in wardrobes.

A bathroom with twin mirrors and black fittings.

Lit steps along the dark blue hall.
