The project

The project brings together two garden traditions, clipped hedges and pergolas. The hedges become vertical planes of metal mesh, sometimes opaque and sometimes see-through, which take in the existing planting and form a labyrinth beneath a pergola.

Layers of tillandsias, a bluish bromeliad native to the Americas, hang from the rusted rebar frame in varying densities. As they grow, the walls will become fuller and wilder, and the folly more landscape than architecture.
