The story

The story behind the work.

Price House sits in the inner township of Torquay on Victoria's Surf Coast, where Lachlan Shepherd Architects arranged a family home around a north-facing central courtyard. The street elevation gives little away, keeping the internal life of the house private.

Materials were chosen to last. Extensive glazing, rusted steel cladding and Cemintel "bare stone" panelling form a low-maintenance exterior intended to weather and age gracefully over time. The two-storey residence was completed in 2016.

Architect: Lachlan Shepherd Architects (Lachlan Shepherd and Jimmy Donaldson, project architects). Photography by Ben Hosking.
