The Cottage

The project
The Cottage is a replacement dwelling within an existing equestrian facility and farmyard in Wiltshire. Artel31 draws on the site's agricultural buildings, combining reused materials with precise detailing and a form that sits within the working rural setting.
Two angled wings bring the garden and pond into the living spaces. The plan allows a smaller core of the house to operate independently when other rooms are not needed. Ground-source heating and solar panels form part of the project's environmental approach.
The upper volume projects over a sheltered entrance.
A corridor links the house's quieter interior rooms.
The canopy casts shadows across the timber shingles.
Planting softens the vertical timber boundary.
