Universidad Europea Turia Campus
The former San Juan Bautista Asylum in Valencia rehabilitated as a university campus, with a new annex on the west of the site.

The project
Universidad Europea Turia Campus brings the university's new urban headquarters to the former San Juan Bautista Asylum, close to the historic centre of Valencia and beside the old Turia riverbed.
The project respects the existing building and its most valuable elements. Shared uses sit in the central body, classrooms and offices in the side wings, and the classrooms connect both to the outside garden and to the inner cloisters. A new annex to the west uses the same materials, colours and rhythms as the historic complex.
During the works, a Spanish Civil War air-raid shelter was found on the site. The building's nolla tile floors, a 19th-century ceramic mosaic made in Meliana, were restored with a specialist archaeologist using traditional techniques.
