Knowledge
Working as an interior designer.
Interior designers plan how spaces work and feel: layouts, materials, lighting, joinery and furniture. In the UK they work in dedicated interiors studios and within architecture practices, across hospitality, workplace, retail and high-end residential projects.
Most come through an interior design degree, but many move across from architecture. Practices look first at spatial planning, detailing and material knowledge, so make those easy to find in your portfolio.
Choose portfolio pages for the work being advertised. A layout study, material decision, detail or FF&E example is useful when you explain the brief, your contribution and the practical constraint it addressed.
Ask which stages you would cover, how much client or consultant contact the role involves and who reviews the work. Compare the scope with the role level rather than relying on junior, midweight or senior as a complete description.
Use the salary benchmarks alongside the responsibilities, benefits and working pattern in the actual offer. A title or a step on a career ladder does not guarantee a particular salary.
