About

About Allies and Morrison.

At Allies and Morrison, we are a team of architects and urbanists dedicated to creating enduring and adaptable buildings and places. We believe in the importance of every detail and the unique context of each project.

With over 300 team members from diverse backgrounds, we combine the strengths of a large practice with the collaborative spirit of a small studio. Our work spans the UK and reaches around the world, including North America, India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Ireland, and mainland Europe. In addition to our expertise in architecture and urbanism, we specialize in conservation, consultation, interiors, landscape design, visualization, and urban research.

Allies and Morrison Studios

Our studio is located in Bankside, a vibrant part of London. It encompasses four buildings with a range of workspaces, meeting rooms, an in-house workshop, roof terraces, gardens, exhibition space, and a café. We have also designed notable projects in the vicinity, such as the Bluefin Building, Bankside 2 and 3, The Crane Building, and buildings on Lavington Street and Great Suffolk Street.

At Home in Bankside

Farnham Place, a lane that we have opened to the public, is an integral part of our studio. On sunny days, it attracts diners from the nearby The Table Café, which we established in 2004. We are known for the rigor of our technical delivery, commitment to quality, and embedded environmental performance. As urbanists, we develop flexible and pragmatic plans that respond to local climates and character while understanding our clients' aspirations and ensuring sustainability and commercial viability.

Craft

We understand the significance of details in our designs. An example is the window at Ash Court, an award-winning student residence at Girton College, Cambridge, built with a Passivhaus approach.

Longevity

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, a thirty-year project, exemplifies our legacy masterplan approach. From an industrial backwater, it has transformed into a restored ecosystem and will become an inclusive hub for living, learning, and culture.

Making

Our modelshop on Farnham Place plays a vital role in shaping our design ideas. Models are an integral part of our design process for most projects.

Cambridge

Our Cambridge studio, situated in a former granary building overlooking the Mill Pond, is at the heart of the Old Press/Mill Lane site, where we are currently developing a masterplan commissioned by the University of Cambridge. With our dedicated team's wealth of knowledge across various project types, we enjoy creative collaboration with clients, users, designers, and specialists.

Participation

Managing Partner Jo Bacon, a Trustee and nationally elected Councillor at the RIBA, frequently delivers lectures and participates in debates about architecture and the city. As a studio, we operate across different sectors under the guidance of our Partners. We work on projects at leading global universities, cultural buildings, offices, workplaces, hotels, and thousands of new homes. As masterplanners, we collaborate with local authorities, private developers, investors, and institutions.

The White Table

Design decisions emerge from discussions around the white tables found in our studios. These tables serve as a platform for exchanging ideas on projects of all scales.

Bob and Graham

Allies and Morrison was founded by Bob Allies and Graham Morrison. Their collaboration began with a competition-winning design for a new public landscape at The Mound in Edinburgh, leading to the establishment of the practice in 1984.

UK, Europe, and the World

Partner Alfredo Caraballo participates in a charrette exploring density in Copenhagen, reflecting our work across different locations, from Liverpool and Manchester to Milan and Paris, and from Toronto and New York to Singapore and Abu Dhabi. We value conversations and dialogue, hosting events and lectures featuring figures from academia, practice, journalism,
