A planted pergola shelters a terrace looking towards Valletta’s harbour. · Pale joinery and warm timber give MI a quieter interior palette. · The restored limestone facade retains the building’s traditional balcony and window openings.

Drawing new possibilities from existing places
Chris Briffa Architects was founded in 2004 and is based in Valletta, Malta. The studio works across architecture, interiors, furniture, products and installations, developing projects through drawing, modelling and refinement.
Its portfolio combines heritage adaptations with new construction across residential, hospitality, workplace and public settings. The sketch remains central to the studio’s process, carrying ideas from an initial brief through the detail of construction.
SCALA brings that attention to an existing Valletta building. Five apartments share a restored staircase while taking on different characters through colour, vintage furniture, local art and their relationship with the harbour landscape.
