SCALA
Five refurbished Valletta apartments combine a restored stone staircase, vintage furniture and distinct interiors beneath planted rooftop terraces overlooking the harbour.
Patterned flooring, vintage furniture and a suspended chair distinguish RE.
The project
SCALA adds five apartments to Valletta Vintage through the refurbishment of an existing building in Malta’s capital. A restored limestone staircase connects the spaces and inspired their musical names: DO, RE, MI, FA and SOL.
Each apartment has its own character. Restored tiles, whitewashed walls and selected colours form a setting for vintage and mid-century furniture alongside contemporary pieces and local artwork. The rooms retain a domestic scale, with places to read, dine and relax.
At the top of the building, planted pergolas shelter terraces facing the entrance to the harbour. The project connects the care of the existing fabric with a continuing collection of furniture and art, allowing a historic building to accommodate another pattern of use.

The restored limestone facade retains the building’s traditional balcony and window openings. · Restored Maltese tiles bring colour into DO’s dining space. · Pale joinery and warm timber give MI a quieter interior palette. · Vintage seating and local artwork shape the living space in FA. · SOL’s living space opens towards a bright upper terrace.
