A Beautiful Mess
A small glazed pavilion gives discarded materials a new role in an installation about motherhood, collaboration and care.
A frontal view reveals the woven installation above the retail display.
The project
A Beautiful Mess is a nine-square-metre installation in Cisauk, Banten. Seniman Ruang worked with a wider creative team to make a pavilion that brings the experiences of motherhood into a shared public space.
Inside the glazed enclosure, Byo Living’s woven form uses leftover window-blind fabric supplied by Sandei. ErreLuce’s lighting animates the installation, while words applied to the enclosure form another layer between the visitor and the woven surface.
The pavilion also accommodates retail activity. Its surrounding stepped seating invites visitors to pause, while a demountable construction system allows the structure to be moved. The project description identifies operable glass partitions as part of its ventilation approach.

Light picks out the enclosure and the woven surface after dark.

The woven fabric curves through the glazed interior.

Words on the enclosure overlap with shadows from the woven fabric.

A daytime view places the small pavilion within its planted setting.
