The story
The story behind the work.
Druid Hills Residence is a measured modernisation of a 1939 house in the Druid Hills neighbourhood of Atlanta, Georgia, originally designed by architect Clement J. Ford, who was known for comfortable, modest homes across Druid Hills and Buckhead. Square Feet Studio was drawn to the property's small but gracious bones, its simple fluted trim, interior arches and built-in bookcases, and a first-visit napkin sketch grew into a full scheme to bring the interior up to date.
The work began with a six-month renovation from 2008 that included a complete electrical overhaul to meet current code, a new kitchen and updated bathrooms. A later phase in 2012 reworked the attic, adding a dormer to create a guest bedroom, bathroom and living space. In 2015 the backyard was re-landscaped and the pool area renovated. Throughout, the studio kept the character of the original house while quietly modernising how it works.
