Projects / Built project
A sunken exhibition and visitor centre folds beneath a planted public landscape in Hangzhou's Asian Games Eco-Park.
The story
The 18,000 m² building follows a boomerang-shaped concrete plan that settles into the park rather than standing apart from it. Full-height glazing brings daylight and natural ventilation into the galleries, while a recessed sculpture courtyard opens the centre from both sides.
Its walkable green roof extends the park over museum-quality exhibition spaces and supports stormwater retention, insulation and planting. Offices, administration, art storage and parking are contained within the landform, allowing the centre to serve exhibitions and community activity beyond the Games.
