The project

Performances in the Roman quarry take place under the open sky, far from the noise of the road. Until the redesign, only the stage benefited from the dramatic setting, while the route from the car park to the seats was purely functional.

AllesWirdGut set out to carry the atmosphere of the rock faces through the whole arena. Weathering steel walkways, ramps and a long visitor building now wind through the quarry, so the walk to the auditorium becomes part of the experience.

Weathering steel walkways weave across the quarry.
A ramp rises towards the visitor building.
The walkways and quarry seen from above.
A glazed foyer beneath a weathering steel canopy.
A timber-lined ramp along the rock face.
