Rebecca Stinchcombe’s project transforms Lavernock Battery, the historic site of Marconi’s first wireless transmission, into a vibrant venue for the British Sign Language (BSL) Festival. The festival celebrates Deaf culture through performances including poetry, comedy, music, dance, and Visual Vernacular, alongside interactive, sensory-friendly workshops exploring BSL through art and movement.

Temporary, biodegradable structures inspired by the landscape and BSL create flexible, accessible spaces that can be deconstructed and repurposed without impacting the historic site. By broadcasting events globally, the festival shares the celebration of Deaf culture beyond Lavernock Battery, fostering pride, inclusivity, and cultural exchange.
